New signature trick from Quentin – D.I.Y GoodSpeed

Quentin just received his new prototype frame from Aresbikes and he already comes up with a new signature trick. No foot-jump over the handlebar…how is that even possible! I hope Quentin invents more tricks like this in the future. I am already curious…

Aresbikes frames 2014

Aresbikes released more details and pictures of their 2014 frames. Except the Ashura frame, Aresbikes didn’t name them differently, but gave them new features. All frames have an integrated seat clamp now and will be available around march 2014. Check the pics and more infos below.

Ashura frame
Rebirth of Aresbikes’ first frame. As the 1999 Ashura, the new edition has a bent down tube with a gusset and is a 100% flatland frame. The most distinctive feature of this frame is the monotube right behind the BB which joins the chain stays (wishbone design). Colors: gloss reddish brown, mat. black. Versions: without pivot and with removable pivot.

“BOO four” prototype hubs – technical review

As I promised in my last post about the new Aresbikes “BOO four” hubs, I bring you more information about the changes Aresbikes made on the their hubs. Please consider that these are prototype hubs and the final versions may differ from these prototypes.

BOO four front hub

  • like all of you noticed, the logo on the hub changed
  • the hub has now a male axle
  • to increase strength of the new “BOO four” hub and to avoid bent axles, the design of the bearing cones on both sides changed
  • to decrease the rolling resistance of the hub, the “BOO four” hub is equipped with metal shield bearings instead of rubber sealed bearings. Like a rubber seal, the metal shield retains lubricant and prevents contamination from entering the bearing raceways. But since there is no contact between the metal shield and the inner ring of the bearing, the torque and speed limitations are virtually unaffected and the performance of the bearing is almost identical to that of an open bearing. With this bearings you definitely will roll further and longer.

  • the inner life is improved (no further details available at this point)
  • the hub has a redesigned 9T cog which allows the use of ultra light 3/32″ chains
  • the axle length changed from 180mm to 175mm
  • the con nut on the driver side is now Cr-Mo (before alloy)

Aresbykes Aplus frame from Hiro

Hiroya Morizaki just updated his blog with details on his new frame Aplus.
Read it here or there.

Introducing the 2012 APLUS, the latest high-end Flatland frame from Aresbykes.
A simple design with attention to details.
Hiroya Morizak's Aplus frame 1
A lowered top tube with a length of 465mm (18.3 inch) provides more stability. This is accompanied by a 73.5 seat angle that simulates a longer top tube feel compared to frames with similar head tube angle. This seat angle would also allow more clearance between the seat and rear wheel.Hiroya Morizak's Aplus frame 2
A higher BB enables more control for rear pedal tricks and nose manuals while butted tubing reinforces the inner chain stay area for additional strength. The seat and chain stays are welded smooth allowing easier pivoting during rear wheel tricks.Hiroya Morizak's Aplus frame 3
With durable yet light tubing, this well designed geometry promises you high response to any kind of tricks. This is a masterpiece of Aresbykes!!!
